Night Life

The Night life in Sri Lanka is only be highly maintained in Colombo specially, Negombo and Galle. The ‘happening’ night life is in Colombo with chillaxing cocktail lounges, modern international restaurants- to lively pubs, tapas bars and sports bars. There is something for everyone.


Sailing in Sri Lanka is ideal at Pasikuda and Beruwela. It has been associated with the Sri Lankan culture and heritage since its origin with fishermen. The main sailing destinations are in the North East coast and the Southern coast. Colombo is also a popular sailing destination.


Golf in Sri Lanka is a sport mostly played by the high class in the society. There are three excellent golf courses. -Victoria Golf & Country resort in Kandy -Royal Colombo Golf Club in Colombo -Nuwara Eliya Golf Club in Nuwara Eliya

Horse riding

Cycling is one of the best ways to explore the beauty of Sri Lanka. Ideal are the lowlands, where the paths aren’t steep. Although cycling in the highlands is quite challenging with steep tracks, ranging levels of ground with scattered pathways. The picturesque beauty of the highlands can be witnessed as a firsthand experience. It is worth a try!!


Trekking in Sri Lanka is quite a choice!! Up in the hill country would be the most suitable for a keen trekker where the trails run from up the mountains through the jungles and across the paddy fields. Among the many trekking sites, the most popular are Adam’s Peak, Haputale, Knuckles Mountain Range, and the Sinharaja Rainforest.


Camping is the only possible way of experiencing the wild by being a part of it. It is best to camp in the National Parks where you can experience lively all the creatures trying to find their dinners lurking around the darkness, and listen to the “hoo”s of foxes and have a good night’s sleep in the middle of all these animals. All the camping sites belong to the Wildlife and Forest Department of Sri Lanka.

White Water Rafting

White Water Rafting can be experienced in Kitulgala by the flow of the picturesque River Kelani. The Award winning movie The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed in this very location. Kitulgala is a patch of rainforest that attracts its visitors for its natural beauty of the wild.

Village tour

Village tours can be toured around or into any village that you may find at the utmost outskirts of any CDB. Although most of the cities facilitate luxurious living facilities, Sri Lanka still continues to remain with well preserved villages that continue their culture and traditions just like every other country.


Surfing in Sri Lanka is possible all year round (except for the monsoon months). It is mainly concentrated towards the east coast and the southwest. Sri Lanka has been recognized by the international surfing community and held an annual International Surfing Competition in Arugambay.

Kayaking & Canoeing

Wind surfing

Wind surfing in Sri Lanka is rather popular in the south-west coast and Bentota is the idyllic beach for windsurfing. Between the months of November-April, before the monsoons is the ideal time for wind surfing in the south west. The nest windy days with rough seas in the east are from the months of May-October.

Elephant Back rides

Elephant back rides are an endemic activity to Sri Lanka due to the very famous Sri Lankan wild elephant. As you ride on the back of the mighty elephant, the largest land mammal in the planet, you will feel and have a spectacular view of scenic surroundings giving you a thrilled experience.

Hot-air Ballooning

Hot- air ballooning is a very unique mode of sightseeing through air. Floating at about heights ranging from 500 to 2000 feet you will have “an experience of a lifetime” that you will never forget. Usually a Hot- air balloon flight is scheduled for takeoff soon after dawn so that the next day’s sunrise and the cool morning breeze with spectacular views of the landscapes can start up your day!!

Dolphin and Whale Watching

Dolphin and Whale watching has been an activity that highlights the south more. In the main port, Dondra Point, many sightings have been noted. December to April are the months of sightings, the peak months being December, January and April. During this season there is a 95% chance of sighting Sperm whales, Blue whales and Spinner dolphins in their migration path just off the Dondra point.

Diving and Snorkeling

Diving and Snorkeling is available all around Sri Lanka all throughout the year. You just need to be sure of when and where. Generally Diving and snorkeling is ideal in the West coast during the months from November- April and the East coast from April- September. This is because of the monsoons. Ideal places are; Hikkaduwa, Kalpitiya, Weligama, Kirinda and Trincomalee.


Fishing is available anywhere and everywhere around and in the country. As a country with an abundance of water bodies, fishing has never been impossible!! Seas, rivers, lakes, springs, tanks, and reservoirs are all inhabited by a variety of fish. Experience fishing in different waters with fish of all tastes.

Bird Watching

Bird Watching in Sri Lanka takes you to a whole new level of endemicity. Out of the 427 recorded bird species; 250 are resident and 23 are endemic to the country. Many live in the wet zone and highlands in the Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve and the Adam’s Peak Wilderness Sanctuary. The 1st migratory species visit Sri Lanka in mid- August.

Helicopter Rides

In the south west coast there many Turtle Hatchery’s for grooming some of the injured turtles in very similar habitats to their own. Its amazing and lovely to see the turtles flipping ashore to nest and then laying their eggs.
